its 37th Annual Fall Conference on
October
25-28, 2007 in
Augusta,
Georgia. Two Georgians
were honored during Saturday’s Stopping the
Violence luncheon at Ma Fannie’s Kitchen.

Macon City Councilman Henry Ficklin receives the Presidential
Award for Outstanding Service form GABEO President
Tyrone Brooks
GABEO
President Tyrone Brooks presented Macon City Councilman
Henry Ficklin with the Presidential Award for
Outstanding Service for his many years as an educator,
minister, Macon City Council member, former treasurer of
GABEO, and former president of the Macon Chapter of the
SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference).

Barbara Gordon, Publisher of the
Metro Courier, receives the Outstanding Courageous
Journalism Award from GABEO President Tyrone
Brooks
Brooks also
presented Barbara Gordon, publisher of the
Augusta weekly
newspaper, The Metro Courier, with the Outstanding
Courageous Journalism Award for her many years of
support of GABEO’s various activities and programs. Having
faithfully followed the organization, Gordon has kept
her community aware of current events that affect the
African American race on many issues.
