Speaking to
a crowd of about 1,400 attendees, Obama stated that
people of faith have a responsibility to express their
values “not just through our churches and our
synagogues, but through our government.” He also
applauded the diverse makeup of nondenominational
Harvest Cathedral which has a membership of about 60%
white to 40% black. "Harvest is a
testimony to what is possible," he said. "Twenty years
ago, this wasn't possible. "Everywhere I go across this
country, I'm hearing from evangelicals who may not agree
with me or progressives on every single issue, but agree
that poverty has no place in a world of plenty, and hate
has no place in a world of believers.
