Oprah, Tiger, & Jay-Z Top The List Of Richest African Americans In The Country

By Amanda Smith

According to Forbes’ list of richest African American celebrities in the United States, Oprah tops the list with a net worth of $2.5 billion, bringing home a whopping $260 million between June of 2006 and June of 2007.  Income sources for Oprah include her talk show, her magazine, her radio channel, and her soon-to-be cable network, The “O” Channel.

Second on the list is Tiger Woods, who raked in $100 million during the same fiscal year.  Forbes estimates that Tiger will become the world’s first sports billionaire within the next ten years.

Last, but not least, is the rap superstar Jay-Z, who brought home $83 million from June 2006 to June 2007.

Filling out the top ten list are:

·        Rapper 50 Cent ($33 million)

·        LA Lakers star Kobe Bryant ($33 million)

·        Miami Heat center Shaquille O’Neal ($32 million)

·        NBA legend Michael Jordan ($31 million)

·        actor Will Smith ($31 million)

·        singer Beyonce ($27 million)

·        Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James ($27 million)

Interesting to note is that none of the above individuals were born into wealth.  Each gained their fortunes through hard work, perseverance, and a refusal to quit.
