Home health care has just gotten a little more personal in Macon.
Tranquillity Home HealthCare, the result of Dowanna Hardy’s creative genius, provides home healthcare to the adult, elderly handicap, medically frail and compromised. Still a relatively new business, Tranquillity opened its doors to the community of Macon in 2007 and is a private home care provider licensed by the state of Georgia.
Tranquillity Home HealthCare offers numerous services within the parameters of nursing, personal needs, and housekeeping such as light laundry, dressing changes, tube feedings, and tending to personal hygiene.
Hardy, hailing from Milwaukee, Wi,. relocated to the Macon, Ga. area in 2005 for the warmer weather and reconnections with her family.
“I had another child on the way and I didn’t want to raise another baby in the city. I also got closer to my family, especially my sister, during the time that my husband was serving in Iraq,” Hardy said.
Home heatlh care is not a new realm to Hardy who has been in the medical field for over 16 years with experience in medical surgery, long-care facilities, phlebotomy, orthopedics, and home health.
She worked for a home health agency for some years, before deciding to create her own vision. “I got into business because I wanted a staff that cared for people as much as I did. I didn’t want the clients to feel burdened in any sense,” Hardy said.
More than anything, it is Hardy’s passion for the care of others that can’t help themselves that drives her. “I love helping people who can’t help themselves. When you give someone that one-on-one they get a sense that you care about what you do,” Hardy said. This one-on-one care can be seen as a staple in Hardy’s business. With a minimal staff of nine people, intimate care is ensured. “By giving the client more attention, we ensure that we provide the highest quality of care,” Hardy said.
One of the most rewarding experiences that Hardy credits the determination of home health care as her passion transpired during the years she was a certified nurse aide. “I was taking care of this lady as a certified nurse aid named Suzanne Suesell who had scoliosis and couldn’t move. I was working for her privately and at one point, her funds ran out. In order for me to continue working for her, she had to sign more paperwork, but for one weekend she still needed care, although she had no money,” Hardy said. Choosing to care for her without pay, Hardy was led to the realization that caring for others was destined for her. "I told myself, this is a test to see if my heart was really in it." If everything was about the money, then I knew that I didn’t really care about the people,” Hardy said. It is evident in Hardy’s sprit and her speech that she possesses the desire to care for others that are in need. “I stepped out on faith opening this business, and this business is carried by God. I pray that God continues to provide my caring heart to provide the highest quality of care,” Hardy said.
