Macon-Bibb County Housing Authority Awards $17,000 in College Scholarships

Macon-Bibb County Housing Authority (MBCHA) has shown its commitment and dedication to higher learning. Since 1986, they have provided over $203,000 in scholarship funding to graduating seniors and adult students in public housing and/or the Section 8 program. The MBCHA Resident Initiatives Team oversees the Scholarship Program. They process all applications, interview applicants, and make recommendations to the MBCHA Board of Commissioners. This year, the MBCHA Board granted the highest amount in the history of the program by awarding $17,000 in scholarships to be evenly distributed amongst the 17 applicants. Congratulations to the 2016 recipients!

The Authority believes in creating opportunities for individuals to expand their horizons and make their dreams come true. The scholarships encourage and support students who have the potential to make significant contributions to society.

Applications for the 2017 MBCHA Scholarship will be available in November. In order to apply, applicants must live in a public housing development or Section 8 housing administered by MBCHA.

For more information about the MBCHA Scholarship Program, please call Brenda Shivers at 478-743-7852 or visit her at the Buck Melton Community Center located at 150 Sessions Drive.
