Sheknita Davis: Embracing the Promotion to Middle Georgia Regional Commission's Workforce Director

Mrs. Sheknita Davis was promoted in October 2013 from program manager to the Middle Georgia Regional Commission's Workforce Director after less than two years of employment with the Macon-Bibb Workforce Investment Board, Inc. (MBWIB). She has been hard at work designing a renaissance strategy to transform Middle Georgia into the next generation of regional workforce readiness.

She said, "I am looking forward to working on building a solid foundational base within our community in collaboration with our new Macon-Bibb County Government and Community Agencies. I would like to see more strategic partnerships focused on education, workforce and economic development within the community."

Mrs. Davis was appointed Program Manager of the MBWIB in December of 2011, and blazed a trail to create a workforce system focusing on skill development and training in demand-driven occupations. In May 2013, she graduated as the first and only Georgia Workforce Development Professional to be accepted to the Aspen Institute's year-long Sector Strategies Academy. Outfitted with outstanding training, Mrs. Davis molded the workforce delivery system in Macon-Bibb County to help companies better fulfill their workforce objectives while local job seekers gain improved income, benefits, and numerous employment opportunities.

Mrs. Davis has an extensive accomplished record of embracing and mastering challenging operations. She quickly advanced to management positions which require innovative programmatic leadership. Her career includes a wide-range of diverse experience as a GEICO representative, where she received the Chairman's Club Award for top performance in claims in 2010. During her tenure at the Department of Family and Children Services as a supervisor, she improved unit accuracy to above federal requirements, saving the agency thousands of dollars in potential insurance errors.

Mrs. Davis holds a BA of Social Science Degree from Mercer University, where she graduated with honors. She is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Public Administration. She serves as a board member for the Community partnership Board and is liaison for the Bellevue Shalom Zone and serves faithfully as an Elder at Bold as a Lion Family Worship Center in Macon, Ga. She is happily married to Dawann Davis, Sr. and they are the proud parents of 5 young men and have 2 grandsons. She enjoys reading and photography.

She added, "Someone believed in me and guided me with choices that helped me with my career and I want to do the same in assisting others. There are great opportunities in Macon and I would like to help local job seekers find and build on their careers rather than going to school and leaving Macon."
