Dr. James Louis Bumpus: Appointed As The Director Of Small Business Affairs For The New Macon-Bibb County Government

On April 16, 2014, Dr. James Louis Bumpus was appointed by Mayor Robert Reichert and supported over-whelmingly by the commissioners as the new Director of Small Business Affairs under the New Macon-Bibb County Government. Bumpus will be responsible for developing and coordinating inclusive programs designed to encourage the growth of small business. This includes education and outreach in assisting small business interested in competing in the bidding process of various contracts in Macon-Bibb County.

He brings with him over 25 years of experience of being a successful administrator, community leader, education driven and having lots of faith.

"I am humbled to be given this opportunity to serve the citizens in Macon-Bibb County," he said.

Bumpus is also running for the School Board at large Post 7. Early voting starts April 28 through May 16.

"The function of education is to replace an empty mind with an open mind. I believe in the education of our children's future. Knowledge is power," Bumpus explained.

Bumpus has many success stories, but the one that sticks out in the community the most, was the 2009' penny sales tax increase known as ESPLOST. The ESPLOST sale tax generated approximately $200,000, 000. back into the community through enhancing the Bibb County School District. Facilities were built, new technology was implemented and recreational were upgraded throughout Macon and Bibb county.

He recently served as Dean of the School of Religion Studies and Urban Community Leadership at Arkansas Baptist College, his prior position was as an Assistant Professor and Faculty Advisor at Fort Valley State University and Senior Pastor at Tremont Temple Missionary Baptist Church. Dr. Bumpus has a Doctor of Ministry-Theology from Mercer University, a Masters of Divinity from Morehouse School of Religion, and a Bachelor of Liberal Studies form the University of Memphis.

He is happily married to Renee and they are the proud parents of four. Bumpus enjoys playing golf, reading and walking.
