Janice "I Am Fitness" Shephard

by Tanya Womack

Janice is a licensed certified personal Trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) and World Instructor Training School (WITS). She is known as the "Energizer Bunny" and a great motivator for people to get healthier and stay fit. She is also a licensed Zumba (a dance fitness program) Instructor with over 25 years of experience in the health and fitness field.

Janice and her husband William, a music producer, relocated from Portland Oregon to Virginia Beach and then moved to Macon, Georgia in 2007, where she currently teaches and trains full time. She has worked diligently to build her name in the community and within the past seven years has established a strong support system of ladies who believe in the vision that God gave her.

Janice held her first fundraiser for a young boy suffering with cancer who attended her son's school. Once she saw how much it helped the family and their medical needs, she began to have several more fundraisers. Her passion to help others lead her to establish her own non-profit organization, We Are Fitness. The non-Profit organization helps raise funds for people who are suffering with cancer or any other type of medical illness. "If I can help in any way during this time of sickness, by assisting with paying some of their medical bills, keeping their lights on or putting food on their table, then I want to try and help." She has held numerous fundraisers, raising thousands of dollars for several people in the community.

Janice started her We Are Fitness Fit Camp in March. She said, "God gave me a vision years ago, I did not know where I would be. I just know he brought me to Macon for a reason."

This year Janice and her We Are Fitness team were invited to be a part of The Cherry Blossom Festival (Macon's largest Festival) downtown Macon at Central City Park. Citizens got a chance to see and participate with "The Zumba Princess" doing the Zumba. There were well over 100 Zumba enthusiasts partaking at the event. "Donna Richardson, Fitness Ambassador to the world, who is known for introducing us to Sweating in the Spirit, along with one of my good friends, Ms. 8X Olympia Lenda Murray continue to inspire me daily with my fitness dreams. First Lady Michelle Obama is also an inspiration with her "Let's Move" Health Campaign, encouraging healthier eating habits and exercising," she added.

She has been asked to be a part of the Pan African Fest on April 26, 2014 at the Harriett Tubman Museum, downtown Macon.

Janice and her family attend Harvest Cathedral in Macon, where she is also a Life Group Leader. Her Zumba classes are held there and open to the public on Tuesday 7:00pm to 8:00pm and on Saturday from 9:00am to 10:00am. There is no charge but a $2.00 donation is greatly appreciated.

She has been happily married to William for 17 years and the proud parents of three and enjoys spending her spare time with her family and working out.

Janice is looking forward to releasing her own DVD soon. Her goal is to encourage the community with health and fitness while having fun during the process.
