McClurkin was born in Copiague, New York and raised in Amityville, both on Long Island. McClurkin found comfort in the church through an aunt who sang background vocals with gospel music musician AndraƩ Crouch. He formed the McClurkin Singers by the time he was a teenager, and later formed another group, the New York Restoration Choir. The man behind the platinum and gold selling CD's has penned chart breaking tunes such as "Stand" and "We Fall Down". He has been seen in cameo appearances on "Meet the Browns", "The Prince of Egypt" and a number of other movies. His face has been seen on the pages of USA Today, The New York Times, Essence, Ebony and Jet Magazines, Billboard and the Daily Reporter. There is definitely far more to this man than just his music.
