"GRACE...for LIFE"
Happy New...You!

by: Velma Albert
Most of us have mixed emotions about the beginning of each year. There's excitement in anticipation of a 'new beginning' and there are regrets of what wasn't accomplished the past year(s). Sometimes, it's a little of both! For example, when your resolutions involve exercise/weight loss, wouldn't you know the most celebrated (and joyful eating) holidays--Thanksgiving and Christmas--happens right before January 1st? So all the weight you LOST before these holidays are FOUND by the time the new year arrives!

It takes a great deal of commitment and discipline to ensure our success. We have such good intentions, but rarely a PLAN to make it happen. I think some of us have the same mindset once we accept Jesus as our Savior. Yes, taking that first step of giving your heart to the Lord is the most important one! (Romans 10:9). After completing the usual new members classes, we usually connect with different ministries in the church, staying involved. Yet, few of us enter into a real relationship with God! The Holy Spirit asked me once how can you have a relationship with (others) if you don't have a relationship with me? It was so loud and so clear that I started looking around the room to see who was there!! Yet His words were (and are) so true.

It's so easy to be spiritually nourished during Sunday Services, Bible Study, and Sunday School, but in order for Christianity to be our lifestyle, it will take being committed to a relationship with Christ! Just as you spend time getting to know a person better, the same is true as we get to know our Savior. That's what renewing your mind is all about: spending time studying, reading scripture (not out of obligation but because you WANT to), asking the Holy Spirit to reveal the meaning of what the scripture says, listening with your heart, and spending time in prayer.

Matthew 6:33 NKJV says "but seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you".

Beloved, let's seek FIRST the Kingdom of God by renewing our minds with the Word of God and all these things, like New Year's Resolutions, will be right in line with the PLAN and purpose God has for us!  Holy Spirit, thank you for being our guide and teacher in reminding us of who we are in Christ Jesus!

So...as the count down brings in the New Year...
5  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a NEW creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new."
(II Cor 5:17 NKJV)
4  "And do not be transformed to this world, but be transformed by the RENEWING of your mind..."
(Rom 12:2a)
3  "Behold I am doing a NEW thing, now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?"
(Is 43:19 NKJV)
2  "Behold, I am making all things NEW..."
(Rev 21:5 NKJV)
1  "But those who wait on the Lord shall RENEW their strength..."
(Isaiah 40:31) NKJVHappy New...YOU!
