Meet Dr. Dwayne Daniels

Dr. Dwayne L. Daniels was first appointed as an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Fort Valley State University in 1999. Since his arrival, he has held several positions, including the Environmental Health and Safety Officer, Director of the LSAMP Program, and most recently, the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry.

Born on May 12, to the late Jasper and Carrie Daniels, he received his early training from the public schools in Halifax County, NC. He was voted in his high school class, Most Likely to Succeed. He went on to do a BS/MS at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC in 1992. He Completed a PhD in Organic Chemistry at Clark Atlanta University in 1997. Dr. Daniels did his Post-doctoral training in 1998 at Tufts University in Boston, MA in Bio-Organic Chemistry. Dr. Daniels has published scientific articles in reputable journals and has received over a million dollars in external funding during his stay at Fort Valley State University.

Since Dr. Daniels has been in Fort Valley, he has been very involved in the community. He was part of a group that organized a non-profit organization to deal with health disparities among minority groups. The organization is called Visions for the Valley. Visions have received a $250,000 grant from the Kellogg Foundation to continue their work in the community.

Dr. Daniels is a two time Big Brother of the year, 2002 and 2005 and was also the Big Brother and Big Sisters Board Member of the Year in 2005. He received the Bill Glass Champions of Life Award for his Prison Ministry Work in 2006. In 2006, he was also listed as Who's Who Among American Teachers.

Dr. Daniels has been very involved in his home church, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Fort Valley, GA under the leadership of Pastor Morris Hillsman Sr. There he has served as a choir president, drummer, Ordained Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Ordained Minister, Chair of the Fun Day Committee and Co-Chair of the Family Ministry. He continues to serve at Shiloh Baptist Church. In January, 2011 He answered the call to preach God’s word. He preached his first sermon on February 27, 2011.

He was called to Pastor the Mount Air Baptist Church of Hawkinsville, GA in May 2012. He was installed as Pastor on August 19, 2012. He and his family have served Mt Air faithfully for one year. Pastor Daniels states that "I am very pleases at how the people of Hawkinsville have received me and my family".

He is married to his high school sweetheart, Manerva for 23 years. They have three beautiful daughters, Sheilah Wiley (Eric), Carrie and Jasmine. He has one grandson, Kristopher Dwayne Wiley born June 11, 2013.
