The Gospel Movement Reunion Choir Presents a Benefit Program for Helen R. Whitby Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Gospel Movement of Macon, Ga. will be sponsoring a benefit program for a memorial scholarship fund for their former advisor, Mrs. Helen R. Whitby, who departed this life in January of 2008. The Gospel Movement is furthering its mission of "Winning Souls to Christ through Singing" and furthering the ministry of Mrs. Helen R. Whitby, whose life was dedicated to working with young children and providing an avenue to bring them to Christ. She was a second mother to numerous young people throughout her life. Mrs. Whiteby was an educator with the Bibb County School System for 20 plus years. She was a lifetime member of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she faithfully served. She was a speaker in and around the city and state. She affectionately called the Gospel Movement her "babies" as she instilled in them values, virtues, and a zeal for singing to the glory of God. She was truly a Christian woman who had a special way of working with young people.

The family of Mrs. Whitby has established an account at SunTrust Bank for the purpose of providing scholarships to students in the Middle Georgia area who want to further their education in a technical school, a two year college, or a four year college or university. It is their hope that the young people of Middle Georgia will be blessed as a result of this effort. Education was very important to their mother and thus this was a perfect opportunity to remember her, honor her and also to give praises to God for all of His goodness and grace.

The Gospel Movement has been working diligently to present this concert to assist in providing as many scholarships as possible for students but also to lift Jesus up and sing to His glory. The program will be held at the New Hope Baptist Church, 1465 Burton Avenue in Macon, Ga. on November 7, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Guest choirs will also participate on this program. The Gospel Movement plans on making this an annual affair. Please come out and support this very worthwhile effort. All proceeds will go to the Helen R. Whitby Memorial Scholarship Fund. Applications for those interested in receiving a scholarship can be found at This promises to be an evening of praise and singing. For further information, contact Chiquita Jordan at 478-972-3012 or Violet Whitby Johnson at 478-213-8875. Donations may be made to the fund at SunTrust Bank in Macon, Ga. Please come out and support this benefit program.
