Education Not Everything, But Important For Highest Office in The Land

With elections coming up very soon, there has been much mud-slinging and plenty of debates between presidential hopefuls Barack Obama and John McCain.  But with the spirit of fairness in mind, the Georgia Informer would like to make a simple comparison of education of these hopefuls and their vice-presidential running mates.

Let’s begin with the Democratic party ticket.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama:

·        BA in Political Science specializing in International Relations from Columbia University in New York City – 1983

·        Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, magna cum laude – 1991 (In Obama’s first year, based on his grades and a writing competition, was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.  In his second year, became the first black president of the Law Review.

·        Taught Constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for 12 years

Democratic vice presidential running mate Joseph Biden:

  •   Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History and Political Science – 1965

·        Juris Doctor from the Syracuse University College of Law – 1968

Republican presidential nominee John McCain:

·        United States Naval Academy – Class Ranking – 894 of 899

Republican vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin:

·        Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester

·        North Idaho College - 2 semesters - general study

·        University of Idaho - 2 semesters – journalism

·        Matanuska-Susitna College/Hawaii - 1 semester

·        University of Idaho - 3 semesters - B.A. in Journalism

Palin can’t seem to sit still for very long, but to her credit, she won the Miss Wasilla Pageant and then finished third in the 1984 Miss Alaska Pageant, winning a college scholarship and the Miss Congeniality Award (during her two semesters at the University of Idaho).

A candidate’s education should certainly be a consideration when an individual goes to the polls and places his/her vote for the highest office in the land.  You make the call.
