Ellington To Run For Macon City Council Seat

By Amanda Smith

Tom Ellington announced recently that he will run for Macon City Council’s Ward 3, Post 3 seat in the upcoming election, seeking to replace Henry C. Ficklin, who has announced his intention to run for the Macon mayoral seat.

A graduate of the University of Maryland, Ellington received his PhD in Government and Politics in 2004, then moved to Macon, Georgia and began teaching political science at Wesleyan College in Macon.

Ellington says that he has been watching City Council and Macon government closely for the past three years and he believes he knows what the city of Macon needs in a city councilmember.  “I would like to see the city’s finances improve by taking a look at the city’s last audit and making sure that all money is in the right place,” he said in a recent interview.

Other issues that Ellington would like to address as a Macon City Councilmember are:

·        Downtown Macon revitalization, as well as surrounding areas

·        Study transportation in other regions in order to improve ours

·        Bring back recycling in order to buy a little more time with the landfill

·        See Houston Avenue repaved
