Wake Up Macon

Georgia AFL-CIO Holds “Give Saxby The Pink Slip” Event In Several Cities Across The State

On Wednesday, November 26 at Noon, union volunteers from throughout the state will literally give Saxby Chambliss the pink slip in a series of visibility events occurring in Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, Moultrie and Savannah.

Volunteers will spend their lunch breaks holding large pink signs outside Chambliss’ regional offices with messages that include “Give Saxby Chambliss the Pink Slip” and “Work for Me, Not Corporations” to highlight Chambliss’ failure to keep good, family supporting jobs in Georgia.

Saxby Chambliss, Georgia Republican encumbent for US Senate

Chambliss opposed an economic recovery and job creation package that would have provided $56 billion in aid to working families, and he’s supported trade agreements that sent jobs overseas.  Chambliss also voted against raising the minimum wage, against health care for children and he recently skipped a vote on a bill to extend unemployment insurance to the thousands of workers who are suffering during the nation’s economic crisis.
“Saxby Chambliss was too busy campaigning to work for us in
Washington. With nearly 350,000 people out of work in Georgia, that’s simply not the kind of leadership we need,” said Georgia AFL-CIO President Richard Ray. “Working people know it’s time to elect someone who will get the job done and get our economy back on track. And the only candidate for that job is Jim Martin.”

The series of lunchtime visibility events is part of an unprecedented union voter mobilization effort in Georgia.  Thousands of AFL-CIO volunteers will knock on doors, make phone calls and distribute worksite flyers to turn out Georgia’s 325,000 union voters in time for the runoff election on December 2.
