Michael ThurmondChallenges Opponent

For Not Telling The Truth

Brent Brown attempts to deceive voters

Georgia Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond today called on Brent Brown to retract his unsubstantiated television campaign advertisement that the “Commissioner supports giving a driver’s license to illegal immigrants.”

Thurmond said, “Brown’s statement is a complete lie. I have never supported issuing Georgia driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants, and my opponent knows that.  This is a desperate attempt to distort my record on an issue of concern to Georgia voters.  Apparently, Mr. Brown is having difficulty finding fault with my solid record of achievement.”

Thurmond worked hard to strengthen Georgia’s immigration reform law during the legislative session earlier this year. His efforts earned bipartisan support in the General Assembly.  In addition, during the past eight years, Thurmond has:

·                         led the department to the number one ranking in the nation in getting the unemployed back to work,

·                         cut employer taxes by $1.5 billion,

·                         increased the maximum weekly unemployment benefit from $244 to $320 - an increase of 31 percent, and

·                         transformed the state’s old unemployment offices into modern, state-of-the-art career centers.”
