Carol Porter Is Running For Lieutenant Governor Of Georgia
Carol Porter has been crisscrossing the entire state of Georgia, from Amicalola Falls to Macon, Commerce to Columbus, Jekyll Island to Dalton in her effort to become Georgia's next Lieutenant Governor. All the while she is talking about her vision for the state -- putting people to work; educating the public; providing efficient transportation; safeguarding natural resources; and ensuring safe, healthy communities -- and the message has resonated far and wide. Carol Porter's focus is on education, pointing out that Georgia is ranked the highest in the percentage of its population in the corrections system because of a devaluing of education. Carol feels this is morally wrong and financially unsustainable for the taxpayer. Her stance on education has already led to a number of endorsements, including one from the Georgia Association of Educators, as well as parents and students statewide.
Carol Porter is a citizen-candidate, and she has been involved in politics for over twenty years as the researcher, strategist, and wife of Minority Leader and Gubernatorial candidate DuBose Porter. In addition to earning a degree from UGA and raising four Eagle Scout sons, Carol is also the general manager and co-owner of nine small newspapers in middle Georgia. Her business touches every other business in the area, as well as all of their employees. She has first-hand knowledge of how the strength of the economy affects Georgia's communities. As Carol says, she is "fed up with Georgia's government working against the people, instead of working for them."
Carol Porter's only opposition in the Democratic Primary refuses to speak to the press, but she is alphabetically first on the ballot. Recent events in South Carolina politics have demonstrated how the first position on the ballot can be a significant advantage to a candidate. The latest poll from SurveyUSA indicates that Carol Porter is leading with 48% of likely Democratic voters, with 28% still undecided.
Carol is an active member of her church, First United Methodist, where she serves on the administrative board, the worship committee and teaches an adult Sunday school class. Carol Porter's common sense and character will move Georgia forward to a prosperous future.
