This year, 2011, has been a crazy one. We've had quite a ride and yet and still, it's not over.
The year claimed the lives of many of our loved ones. From our local friends such as Albert Billingslea, Coach Don Richardson, Andrew "Sugar" Dillard, Marphralia Parker, Gladys Harris and Howard Creecy to national political deaths of Troy Davis, Betty Ford, Osama Bin Laden and Muammer Gaddifa to celebrities such as Nick Ashford, Amy Winehouse, Joe Frazier, Heavy D, Nate Dogg and Elizabeth Taylor, death has taken some major lives this year.
We've also witnessed national catastrophic weather systems this year, including tornadoes, floods, earthquakes on the east coast and hurricanes that took many lives and did damage to many others. If you have any inch of religion in you, it's hard to not think these are signs of the times. It's hard to not think the end is near. However, it's not here yet, so we have to move on in a positive direction.
This year we've witnessed many other strange things such as the increasing amount of elderly men molesting little boys as well as the way the media and politicians are making homosexuality normal in our everyday life by allowing it to be shown more on television and legalizing same sex marriages in some states. There are more and more people in high positions coming out of the closet, and there are more and more commercials and subliminal advertising pushing this lifestyle to our youth.
This year we have a black republican presidential candidate that is doing his best to embarrass our entire race as he runs a campaign without the knowledge that a president should hold. Furthermore, several women allege that he either sexually assaulted them or carried on relationships with them while married.
Finally, this year, as our economy continues to plummet , we have protestors all over the country marching and picketing, doing what they can to bring attention to those who should really be held accountable, banks and Wall Street.
Yes, this has been a crazy year. At some point you have to stop and look at where we are, wonder how we got here and where on earth could we be going next. As we approach the holiday season, maybe it is symbolic to what is really happening to us these days. Notice we call it the Holiday season nowadays and not Christmas. Notice we sing more Jingle bells and not "Hark the Harold Angels Sing" and "Silent Night."
It's not hard to see what is missing. The Lord is missing in our every day lives and possibly by design. It’s time for us to take note of what is going on, teach our kids what they really need to know and stand for what is right. It’s time to take our lives out of the hands of the powers that be and put them back into God's.
It's definitely time to look back at where we've gone wrong, acknowledge our mistakes, remember our passed loved ones and take a step forward in our new future; our rightful destinations.
