Don't Push Me;
We're Already Close to the End

Everyone seems to be fascinated about the end of the world these days. Seems like at least 2-3 times a year another "end of the world" movie is released. If you turn on the History Channel, it seems like at least twice a week there's a show dedicated to the apocalypse. Furthermore, recently a preacher out of California, Harold Camping, predicted that Jesus would return on May 21, 2011. He had a host of followers, but mostly skeptics and hecklers, cracking jokes and ridiculing him. Regardless, May 21 came and went. No Jesus. More jokes. Camping finally came out and admitted his calculations were a bit off and then predicted a new date, Oct 21, 2011.

I'm not absolutely sure what this guy's deal is. I don't know if he's really serious. He seems to know the Bible. But how could he know the Bible and not know Mathew 24:36 where it says "No one knows about the day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father."

He seems to be serious. But maybe he's just serious about getting some media attention. He's written a book about the world coming to an end in 1994. So he’s been wrong twice. Why are we even paying him attention?

I really do believe that the end of the world is near. But so has the last 4-5 generations. There are so many things mentioned in the Bible that would happen before the world ends that are coming to pass as we speak. Many people focus on the catastrophic weather patterns worldwide.

Jesus said in Mathew 24, "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."

Others tend to only look around and see the signs of the end everywhere they turn. 2 Timothy 3 states, "There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of the God."

That just pretty much described today's society.

That alone lets me know that the end is near. But instead of adding a gimmick to it and twisting it to make it fit a certain movie release or book, why not just teach the word and share it for those that don't know. Making it a gimmick just makes it more unbelievable to millions.

The end of the world is definitely near. But don't push it; we're already close to the end.
