Randall Announces Run For Mayor

Yet another candidate has thrown his hat into the race for the seat of Macon’s next mayor.  Lance Randall announced his candidacy at Macon City Council Chambers on March 8, 2007.  Randall is the son of Bibb County Magistrate Judge William Randall and grandson of civil rights leader and first black Bibb County Commissioner William “Daddy Bill” Randall.

Randall has never held office to this date, but lost a close race for Chairman of the Bibb County Commissioners to Charlie Bishop in 2004.

Randall joins a growing list of those who would like to take Mayor C. Jack Ellis’ place when he leaves his seat at the end of this year.  So far, four others have formally announced; Republican Arlen Gibson (the only Republican in the race), Macon City Council President Anita Ponder, Educator and former Macon city councilwoman Thelma Dillard, and former Macon city councilman and state Representative Robert Reichert.

In announcing his candidacy, Randall promised, among other things, to institute a Black Male Initiative in other to tackle the tough issues concerning the incarceration, crime rate, and joblessness of a large segment of Macon’s black male population.
