 Republicans Win Most Statewide Offices

In a landslide not entirely unexpected, Republicans won most of the statewide offices in the election on November 7, 2006.  Most of the country rejected the Republican Party for office in favor of the Democrats.  Democrats now have the majority in the House of Representatives as well as in the U.S. Senate.

In fact, the only Democrats that won were those that were already in office, the incumbents.

  • Karen Handel (Republican) won the race for Secretary of State

  • John Oxendine (Republican) won the race for Commissioner of Insurance
