Roy & Greg's Movie Review

Plot The third installment of The Saw franchise finds Jigsaw (Tobin Bell) and his apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), kidnapping a doctor (Bahar Soomekh) to keep him alive, so he can play one last series of "games."

The Good (if there is any): This is Jigsaw's origin story.  You get to see the motivation behind Jigsaw's penchant for elaborate deathtraps and the history behind his relationship with amanda.  Also, the gore factor is really amped up.  Fans of the Saw movies will lap this one up, and cross their fingers hoping for another sequel.

The Bad:  What does it say about the American moviegoing public when a grindhouse film is No.1 at the box office?  To paraphrase Jigsaw: "I want to play a game.  It's called "Give me my money back."

Ratings Greg: 2 out of 10

                    Roy: 7.5 out of 10

Catch  A Fire

Plot When a bomb is set off at a South African oil refinery, policeman Nic Vos (Tim Robbins) brings suspects in for questioning, one of whom is plant foreman Patrick (Derek Luke), who is held without explanation and repeatedly tortured.  When Vos kidnaps his wife and tortures her as well in an attempt to force him to admit to the crime, Patrick is so outraged that he becomes the very thing Vos fears: a terrorist.

The Good: This is a smartly written film with superior performances by Robbins (The Shawshank Redemption) and Luke (Antwone Fisher).  Both sides of Apartheid are explored as both characters run the moral gamut from black to white to gray, and back again.

Ratings Greg: 9 out of 10

                    Roy: 8 out of 10
