A Dekalb County native, Judge Barnes was elected to the Court of Appeals in November, 2006 and sworn in by Chief Justice Robert Benham on January 6, 2007.  She received her law degree from the University of Georgia School of Law and is a member of the Atlanta Bar Association, American Bar Association, Georgia Association of Women Lawyers, Lawyers Club of Atlanta, and was a Vice President of the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association.
