Kathy, a teacher by trade, served two terms in the Georgia General Assembly (1998-2002) representing Peachtree City, Georgia prior to her election as State Superintendent of Schools in 2002.  A Republican, she sought re-election in 2006, easily defeating Republican Denise Majette by earning nearly 60% of the vote.
