Atlanta Welder Fuses ‘Green and Gold’ To Win $350,000

A 51-year-old Atlanta welder has fused together a little green, a little gold and a lot of luck. Roy Patterson Jr. played Green and Gold, a Georgia Lottery instant game, and won $350,000.

Patterson scratched his ticket in a break room at work Thursday morning. After sharing the news with co-workers and his supervisor, he celebrated with a hearty breakfast before heading to Georgia Lottery headquarters to claim his winnings.

Main Street Chevron, located at 3537 Main St. in College Park , sold the top prize ticket.

Patterson, a city of College Park employee, is excited about his win.

“I’m going to pay off all of my credit cards, get a new car, and help my brothers and sisters,” he shared.

According to Patterson, he has always felt lucky.

“Luck to me is breathing and health. This is extra lucky here,” he exclaimed.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.9 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia ’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia ’s Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
