Monroe Mail Carrier Celebrates $104,000 Lottery Win

A Monroe postal worker is carried away with excitement. Nallie Atkism won $2,008 a week for a year for a total of $104,416 playing Weekly Bonus 2008, a Georgia Lottery instant game.

Chestnut Cupboard, 1135 Church St. in Monroe , sold the lucky ticket. She scratched it in the car.

“I was so excited, I started hollering,” the mother of three said about her lottery win. “I’d recently been dreaming that I would win something playing the lottery.

Atkism, 32, is a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She plans to buy a new car and save the remainder of her winnings.

“I feel good because I can get whatever I want,” she exclaimed.

Since its first year, the Georgia Lottery Corporation has returned over $9.7 billion to the state of Georgia for education. All Georgia Lottery profits go to pay for specific educational programs including Georgia ’s HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia ’s Prekindergarten Program. More than 1 million students have received HOPE, and more than 860,000 4-year-olds have attended the statewide, voluntary prekindergarten program.
