Resilience and hope will take center stage this Monday as the Macon Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office celebrates the Class of 2025 graduates of the R.I.S.E. (Restoring Inspiration by Success in Education) Initiative. On December 22, students who have overcome trauma and adversity will be honored for their achievements in a graduation ceremony, followed by a special Christmas shopping experience with their families.

The graduation ceremony begins at 10:00 a.m. at the Macon City Auditorium at 415 First Street and will feature community leaders, inspiring testimonials from fellow graduates, and a musical performance by graduates. The Honorable Penny Brown Reynolds will deliver the commencement address, followed by the presentation of certificates to the Class of 2025.

R.I.S.E. graduates will also have the honor of participating in the Merrie Christmas Project, which will provide an opportunity for students to experience the joy of giving to their loved ones.

“These young people have faced challenges that many of us cannot imagine including violence, trauma, loss, and adversity that would test anyone’s spirit,” said District Attorney Anita Howard. “Yet they have persevered, worked hard, and achieved success through education and support. The R.I.S.E. Initiative exists to mitigate trauma in youth, break the cycle of violence and foster hope and opportunity and prevent them from becoming part of the criminal justice system in the future. This celebration is our community’s way of honoring their strength and showing them that we believe in their bright futures. I’m deeply grateful to the Kaplan Family and all our partners who invest in these remarkable young people.”

The R.I.S.E. Initiative serves children in the Macon Judicial Circuit who have been impacted by violence, crime, and trauma. The program connects young people experiencing homelessness, exposure to violence, and mental health challenges with education specialists, mental health professionals, and community resources. Through individualized support and caring mentorship, R.I.S.E. helps students heal from trauma, succeed academically, and build hopeful futures.
