William T. Dumas, Sr., peacefully transitioned from this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, hard work, and love. He was born to the late Wilkin Dumas, Sr. and Julia Pearl Card Dumas and was educated in the Jones County Grammar School. A man of deep faith, William loved the Lord and dedicated his life to serving God and his church family. He first attended St. Paul AME Church in Jones County. Later in life, he became a faithful member of Turner Tabernacle AME Church, where he served diligently on the Trustee Board and the Kitchen Committee. His spiritual journey continued as he became one of the founding members of The Church at Dudley, where he was ordained and faithfully served as a Deacon.
William was a hardworking man who provided for his family through his employment with the Chalk Mine and Shepherd Brothers Timber Company. He approached every job with dedication, integrity, and a strong work ethic. Outside of work and church, William found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing, cooking, and gardening, and he especially cherished spending time with his family. He had a passion for his dogs, race cars, and motorcycles, and he enjoyed singing with his family, creating memories that will forever be treasured by those he loved.
William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jessie Mae Dumas; his parents, Wilkin Dumas, Sr. and Julia Pearl Card Dumas; his daughter, Delphy Curry; his brothers, Clarence Dumas, Wilkin Dumas, Jr., and Johnny Dumas; and his sisters, Mattie Pearl Edwards and Susie Dumas.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted friend, Willie Mae Young; his children, William Dumas, Jr. (Sandra Robinson), Willie Dumas (Sharon), Cynthia Lewis
(Harold), and Bernard Dumas (Doris). He is also survived by his loving siblings, Alice Mae Dumas and Raymond Dumas (Gracie Dumas); extended family, Joe Rouse and David Shepherd; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-greatgrandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews, other extended family members, church family, and friends.
William’s life was a testament to faith, perseverance, and love. His wisdom, gentle spirit, and unwavering devotion to family and God will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know him.
