Healing patients through the provision of individualized attention is one of the main ways local chiropractor, Dr. Ashanda Fennell, chief executive officer and founder of Hands On Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic, is helping those in need of chiropractic care.
The licensed nineteen-year Chiropractor specializes in the proper treatment and documentation of auto injuries resulting from car accidents and other serious injuries. Her “whole person approach” is by design and facilitates finding underlying causes of any disturbance or disruption to the spine.
In addition, she uses a wide variety of chiropractic techniques when adjusting her patients which allows her to tailor treatments to their specific needs. Dr. Fennell states, “I take a holistic approach by looking at everything the person is presenting with so that I can assist them with the best treatment for their healing. She also mentioned “Providing individualized attention to each patient is what I pride myself on in my practice.”
Chiro is derived from the Greek word cheir or kheir which means hands. It seemed natural to name her business around the meaning and homage to how she became a Doctor of Chiropractic. As a teen she and her family were involved in a car accident in Union City, Georgia that left them in pain.
They sought medical treatment at a local chiropractic office where the Fisk University graduate would eventually become employed as a Chiropractic Assistant. Working there aspired her to have her own solo practice one day.
There is a lot of competition in the chiropractic industry. However, Dr. Fennell sets her practice apart by promoting to her patients that she is one of only three Black and female owned businesses of their kind in her hometown of Macon but she is the only certified medical examiner for DOT physicals amongst them. Deep Tissue Laser Therapy, is a safe, FDA cleared therapeutic modality that focuses on removing inflammation and pain for deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue through the usage infrared light, is also available at Hands On Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic – making it one of just a few offices offering it.
Achieving the best outcome for patients is a stellar service, says Dr. Fennell and fuels her investing in the latest equipment, continuing her education and participating in training opportunities. “
Dr. Fennell says she loves engaging her patients. She loves to use the “listen and be silent” method to better understand her patient’s needs and make them feel more trusting and confident in her ability to successfully treat them. She recalled a man that literally crawled into her office because of his inability to withstand pain associated with walking and standing because of a car accident he was involved in at work.
She helped him to walk again and was overwhelmed when he saw her out at a local mall about fifteen years later and thanked her profusely for helping him to heal. “You don’t even realize the type of individual you’ll come across in this business. You don’t even know who you’ll be a blessing to,” Dr. Fennell said after admitting to unapologetically infusing God into her work as a guiding light and source of strength.
Two additional patients that Dr. Fennell has helped are Vernice Knight, a resident of Florida and Macon and Monya Rutland, a Macon mother, spouse, and businesswoman. Knight decided on Dr. Fennell following a car accident enroute to Macon from its neighboring state down south. A local directed her to a lawyer who in turn put her in touch with Dr. Fennell. “I felt cared for and pampered. That was important because it showed she cared,” Knight said. “I remember wondering if I was going to be what I was before the accident but she goes beyond the normal scope of most chiropractors. If someone really wants to get healed then go see her.”
Rutland was referred to Dr. Fennell by a mutual friend who has been her patient for years describing Dr. Fennell as her go-to for relief. She says Dr. Fennell has a very engaging and reassuring bedside manner and her results have been immediate and unbelievable. “I was in extreme pain during my initial visit but when she “laid hands” on my back, I later was able to walk out of her office with praise. Her hands are truly anointed,” Rutland stated.
Hands On Chiropractic & Wellness Clinic is also community driven and contributes annually to worthy causes. Dr. Fennell says she does her best to give back. Becoming a federal government, state and local contractor is a goal which will give Dr. Fennell greater reach.
For those looking for a chiropractor, Dr. Fennell invites them to give her a try. “I take pride in spending quality time with my patients. My office is not about numbers. It’s about care so we can help them with what they’re experiencing.”
