Young Maconite Makes History as Opera Singer

Jasmine HabershamThe fall university issue of Classical Singer magazine displays on its cover a full picture of Maconite Jasmine Habersham. The feature story of this magazine, which is largely circulated for colleges and universities with an emphasis on voice and classical performance, heralds Macon native Jasmine Habersham as “creating the road less traveled.”

Music departments over the nation from Arizona State University to Youngstown State University have now been introduced to the marvelous talent of Jasmine, who was born, raised and schooled here in Macon, Georgia. She was an honor graduate of Rutland High School in 2007 and graduated in 2011 with a degree in Vocal Performance from Shorter College. She furthered her studies to receive her Masters in 2013 from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and was awarded her Artist Diploma in 2015.

Classical singer/writer, Megan Gloss, says “soprano Jasmine Habersham forges a path all her own in classical voice.” She further writes that Jasmine has a “bold creation of her own path as a professional singer who didn’t fit into someone else’s mold.” Habersham is quoted as saying that music helps people “during a time when people just really needed to forget what was happening. They could instead focus on something beautiful, and they could find a way to heal. That’s what music should always be about.”

Jasmine Habersham has performed in operas and concerts across America and Europe. Critics describe her voice as “magnificent, exquisite and memorable.” She is completing her debut performance at the prestigious Houston Grand Opera as Sophia in the opera “Werther.”

Jasmine credits her proud father and mother, and her brother, who are all musicians in their own rights with setting her path to classical singing.
