Jordan Christian Rumph — I first met this young man informally when he delivered a package to me from his mother. I was immediately impressed and wanted to get to know him better and introduce him to you. Jordan is a healthy, strappy preteen whose mother describes him as calm and easy going. He describes himself as a good student who enjoys school and does not get bad reports.

His favorite subject in school is math. An all-around athlete, his favorite sport is soccer, and he enjoys the position of goalie. He is a seasoned player so advancing players from the opposite team do not intimidate him at all. He is always ready to defend. He also enjoys basketball, and he plans to go out for football in the spring. His favorite professional basketball team is the Kansas City Golden State Warriors. His favorite Professional Football team is the Atlanta Falcons.

He returned to his church after COVID and is happy to be participating in gospel music again at Greater Bellevue Baptist. He explained that he had sung a solo at his church the Sunday prior to our conversation, and he has been asked to lead Prayer Services next Sunday because he spends a lot of time with his grandfather, a deacon, and he knows how to pray. He participates in three bands. All his musical training is in percussion, but he looks forward to learning how to play the trombone. He recalls being in the car with his mother when she went to pick up someone from band practice. He watched the rehearsal and was immediately hooked. Bands have been his thing ever since.

Like his peers, his favorite outfit is sweats, a t-shirt and tennis shoes. His favorite color is blue. His favorite food is chicken wings. He said he can only cook eggs but would like to learn to prepare more dishes. He enjoys his X Box and being outside with nature. His favorite song is “Hang on in There,” by Walter Hawkins. His favorite color is blue. His favorite movie is Drumline. The animal he admires most is the lion because he is intelligent, strong and confident.

If he could travel anywhere for a week’s vacation, he said he would like to return to West Palm Beach, Florida with his mom and make more great memories. He has definite plans to attend the Fort Valley State University and major in music. He hopes to become a musician.

Okey, Jordan, sing on, pray on, drum on; and we’ll look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Jordan is the son of Christa J. Rumph and Cedric Jackson.
